Cogent, has launched a project to create a comprehensive, nationally recognised set of workplace standards for sustainable business development.
These standards will define the skills and knowledge employees in the sector need in areas such as energy efficiency and waste reduction and elimination. The standards will be used to inform and underpin training and qualifications across all industries in the Cogent footprint.
The initiative will help the industry address Government policies for making industry more sustainable and more environmentally friendly. It is hoped that these occupational standards will define what every worker should know and practice in order to achieve the benefits to be gained from long-term sustainability. In addition it is hoped that it will improve the sectors environmental and ethical credentials, efficiency and competitiveness, and provide long-term economic benefits.
The draft framework is currently divided into four areas of practice, with the relevant National Occupational Standards defined for each area:
- Development of sustainability strategy
- Management of sustainable practices
- Implementation of sustainable practices
- Contributing to sustainable practices
