It is estimated that UK businesses could save in excess of £6.4 billion per year by making simple changes to use resources more efficiently. In response to this challenge Cogent SSC, the Sector Skills Council for science based industries, is leading a project to develop cross-sector standards and qualifications linked to ‘Sustainable Business Practice’. We are being supported by 10 other partners, including a mixture of other Sector Skills Councils, a professional body, Knowledge transfer networks and an awarding body.

Who are the Sustainable Business Practice standards aimed at?
If an organisation is successfully implementing Sustainable Business Practice it will permeate through many of their activities and job roles. Everyone from the company CEO/Director who play a role in setting and driving through sustainability strategy, through procurement teams who have responsibility for purchasing efficiently and sustainably, research and development staff who ensure that innovations to products, processes and services are sustainable, environmental practitioners who implement and maintain environmental systems, to the role all staff have to play in contributing to the efficient use of resources such as energy and water.
We need your input on the new standards and qualifications!
National Occupational Standards have to reflect a UK-wide view of competent practice. In order to achieve this consensus view we aim to engage with as many people as possible, from across the 4 nations and from all sizes and types of organisations, to shape their content.
How you can contribute?
Online questionnaire
We have generated a short online questionnaire to gather feedback on the standards and the need for qualifications to support Sustainable Business Practice. It should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete. Please contact Julie Plumbley to take part.
