The National Skills Academy Process Industries will hold its inaugural one day conference on 30th April 2009 in York. www.processnationalskillsconference.co.uk

Cogent will play a role in the conference, which will feature a range of high profile speakers, keynote speeches, case studies, masterclass and workshop sessions which aim to help stakeholders deliver solutions to the skills issues facing their industry.
Keynote speakers have been confirmed: Tom Crotty, CEO of INEOS Olefins - the world's third largest chemical company; and Lord Young (Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Skills and Apprenticeships), and several headline sponsors have been signed up.
Other news from the NSA Process Industries includes the appointment of a new Regional Skills Manager, Lucy Stirland, who will cover the South East, joining a network of other Regional Skills Managers covering the North East, the North West, the East and West Midlands and Yorkshire and the Humber.
Lucy has significant sales, marketing and training experience in the pharmaceutical industry, having worked in Sanofi, Lederle and latterly Wyeth, and will drive the Skills Academy’s agenda in the South East.
Expanding network
Development of the Training Provider Network is also underway, with a series of roadshows around the regions designed to explain the many benefits of involvement to training providers.
The aim is to build an inclusive provider network, encompassing organisations of different sizes, different backgrounds and perspectives to broaden the Skills Academy offer. Network membership is open to publicly funded providers and commercial training organisations alike.
The Skills Academy’s Provider Accreditation Scheme has been launched and the Academy is now inviting providers to come forward and be part of a framework that will see their products and services assessed and endorsed to a nationally-agreed standard, set by industry employers themselves.
Finally, stage two of the Passport skills endorsement pilot programme saw the launch of the accreditation of prior learning scheme, Assessment System for Employer Training (ASET), earlier this year, which will enable employers to assess their own training and qualifications framework against the Gold Standard for skills.
