Accreditation of employer training is an important part of the
Cogent Sector Skills Pledge, and ensures that employers are working to world-class standards.
The new National Skills Academy Process Industries has
launched a pilot scheme that will see UK employers assess their own
training and qualifications framework against a new Gold
Standard for skills, which has been developed by Cogent.
The Skills Academy is now working with a group of employers across the UK, and the
relevant awarding bodies, to develop a practical framework through which skills
development can be measured against an industry standard, rather than those of
individual employers.
Industry research shows that many process industries
employers are likely to have existing staff training programmes in place that
already meet the assessment standards of the Gold Standard qualifications.
The pilot is expected to show that a large proportion of
employees will already be eligible for accreditation of prior learning assessment.
Developed by Cogent, there are now six Gold Standards, based
on whole qualifications, covering categories ranging from technical competence
to generic abilities such as business improvement.
