Q – What do the Cogent industries have in common?
A – The sectors represented by Cogent share similar cultures which derive from hazardous technologies, the highly regulated nature of parts of their industries and common skills issues which include the need for highly skilled managers, researchers, engineers and technicians as well as process operators.
Q - What are the benefits of these industries joining forces within Cogent?
A - Increased human and financial resources enable the SSC to deliver better and more cost-effective solutions to employers’ skills needs. Cogent covers a workforce of around 800,000 and a contribution to GDP in the region of 6%. As such, it has increased influence with Government and other key stakeholders.
Q – How is Cogent funded?
A – Cogent receives substantial funding from employers. Work is also under way to develop new funding models for the organisation, for example a membership model whereby in return for a membership fee, employers are able to access a range of products and services to meet their business needs. As a member of the Skills for Business Network, Cogent also receives financial contribution from Government via the Sector Skills Development Agency.
