New Chair and Board at Chemicals Northwest
14 Mar 2008

Dr Tony Bastock OBE, Mr Mike Armitage and Mr Jorge Oliveira were elected as Chair, Deputy Chair and Board member at the March Board Meeting. Dr Jenny Clucas who was appointed CEO of Chemicals Northwest in December will also join the new Board. They succeed the current Chair Carol Boyer-Spooner who resigned to concentrate on her role as CEO of Chemical Innovation Knowledge Transfer Network and Board Member Ern Edmonds of Solvay who is now working abroad.

Tony is MD of Contract Chemicals, a CIA Council and Executive Committee Member and also a member of the CEFIC Board and Executive Committee.  Mike was CEO of European Colour plc until 2002; he is currently MD of PBT Growth Ltd, a consultancy providing companies, especially SMEs with strategy and change management assistance.  Jorge has worked for Solvay for 22 years, essentially in the manufacturing environment.  He progressed into a general management role 4 years ago and is currently Managing Director of 2 companies in the UK, Solvay Interox Limited and Solvay Chemicals Limited.

Jenny said “On behalf of Chemicals Northwest, I would like to congratulate Tony and Mike on their appointment and welcome Jorge to the Board. I am delighted that people of such calibre are joining CNW’s Board, as they each bring different talents and experience, but are all passionate about supporting the chemical industry in the NW.  I am looking forward to working with them to further expand the role of Chemicals Northwest in the region.”

Tony paid tribute to the huge contribution made by Carol and Ern in their work to develop the strategy of Chemicals Northwest and their success in establishing it as the lead organisation promoting the growth of chemistry-using companies in the region.  He said “Mike and I and the new Board are totally committed to the four clear priorities; Innovation, Image, Skills and Sustainable Development.  We urge all producers, service providers and downstream users of chemistry and chemicals to get involved with CNW and embrace these priorities, which will lead to sustainable growth and competitiveness for our region.”
