Skills Gap To Be Bridged By New Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship
26 Jun 2008
Oxford and Cherwell Valley College (OCVC) has just announced the introduction of an exciting new industry-specific Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship.
This new and unique Apprenticeship will provide employers an opportunity to train and develop their employees in the workplace, from school leavers to graduate level. It will also be equally suitable for bridging the skills gap of those already working in the industry, and therefore offered to entrants of all ages.
David Brooks, Manager
of Materials Science at Crown Packaging UK Plc based in Wantage welcomes the
new apprenticeship programme. He said,
“This will enable us to provide our staff with formal qualifications and
a structured training programme tailored to our company needs which in turn
will improve our prospects of recruiting to fill our skills gaps.”
Sally Dicketts, Principal of OCVC said,
“This apprenticeship is
unique in that OCVC is the only provider in the south of England to offer
thesequalifications. Tailored to
meet the employer’s requirements and delivered either as a framework or as
stand-alone qualifications, this Apprenticeship can also be used as a stepping
stone for further progression onto a Foundation Degree in Advanced Technology
or a variety of specialised Level 4 short courses. The important message is
that OCVC specifically seeks to work with employers which in turn will ensure a
consistent effective and measureable delivery whilst exceeding expectations.”
The new Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship will commence in
September 2008 and consists of:
BTEC National Award & Certificate in Applied Science (2
