Hastings College Appointed Southeast/East Regional Hub for NSAN

Hastings College has been appointed as the hub of the Southeast/East Region for the National Skills Academy for Nuclear. As the hub for the Southeast & East Region, Hastings College will support the Skills Academy Regional Manager, Robin Tinkler, to complete an evaluation of training needs and training development required for the nuclear sector in the region. Hastings College will work with the Skills Academy’s quality assured network of providers, to ensure that training meets the nationally agreed Skills Academy standards, and is responsive to the needs of all the nuclear employers in the Southeast/East region.

Hastings College has a long history of working with local and regional employers to design and deliver vocational and professional training and qualifications. The College has a reputation for working in partnership with employers, stakeholders and providers to develop innovative, high quality training solutions for sectors and business in the Hastings area and in the South East region.The National Skills Academy for Nuclear has been established to address the key skills and training challenges facing the nuclear industry to ensure it has a skilled workforce that can operate safely and effectively and can meet the future demands of this rapidly changing industry.

The National Skills Academy for Nuclear is structured around the five main areas of the nuclear activity across the UK (Northwest/Northeast, Southeast/East, Southwest, Scotland and Wales, and a Regional Training Cluster (RTC) is being established in each region.  Within each RTC a hub organisation will be appointed to lead, co-ordinate and provide appropriate quality support for the regional network of Skills Academy approved training providers.

Where possible, the Skills Academy aims to build on existing good provision in the region and will work with current providers to raise the standards and ensure they are responding to employer demand.  The Skills Academy will work via a variety of models: for example, existing training centres, FE Colleges, Universities, on employer sites or new purpose built facilities, the physical presence will be dependant on what is needed for each region.
