The Chemicals Manufacturing and Petroleum industries offer a Foundation and an Advanced Modern Apprenticeship in England; a National Traineeship and a Modern Apprenticeship in Wales and a Modern Apprenticeship in Scotland.

What are the entry requirements?
The Modern Apprenticeship is open to all young people aged 16 and over who can demonstrate that they have the aptitude and potential to achieve the relevant NVQ in a technical discipline and meet the demands of the programme of further education. As a general indication, candidates for the Advanced Modern Apprenticeship will have or be expected to attain by the start of their training at least 4 GCSE's, including Maths, Science, English and one other. For the Foundation Modern Apprenticeship there are no minimum entry requirements.
The programme allows equal access to all applicants.

What Skills and Qualifications will I gain?
The training will be specific to the route you choose to follow, they are all made up from four key parts:

• NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Process Engineering Maintenance, Process Operations, Process Manufacture or Laboratory Operations. These are vocational awards that are achieved through assessment and training.

• Key (England) or Core Skills (Scotland). These are a range of essential skills valued by employers. Learning providers will ensure these skills are incorporated into your programme.

• A planned programme of Further Education. In England Technical certificates are being introduced that will assess vocational knowledge and understanding. They are delivered through a taught programme of off-the-job training unlike NVQ's which are delivered through on-the-job.

• Additional Components that encourage employees development and broaden training.
