The Board of Trafford College is delighted to announce that Bill Moorcroft, current Principal of South Trafford College, has been appointed Principal of the newly merged Trafford College.
This new appointment comes at an exciting and challenging time, with South Trafford
College and North Trafford College merging as of September 2007, to form the
new £29 million Trafford College. The merger has been warmly welcomed by both College
corporations and is seen as an opportunity to create a single institution,
providing excellence in teaching and learning. It is believed that an even
stronger organisation will be created by bringing the two organisations
together, which will retain the best features of the individual institutions,
and offer better facilities and more choice for Trafford learners.
The
vision is centred around the development of four main centres for the merged College:
- The Young People's Centre
- The Adult Learning and Skills Centre
- The Science and Technology Centre
- The Centre for Contemporary and Popular Music
The
College will provide learners within the region with enhanced opportunities at
post-14 in both vocational and academic pathways, in state-of-the-art premises
that are fit for the needs of 21st century learning.
The
new Principal said today: “I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to lead Trafford College in the future. The new College
will provide fantastic opportunities for young people, adults and the broader
community with a focus on social mobility and economic prosperity for all those
we serve.
“We
will be making significant investments in the future, providing world class
facilities for learners and reshaping the landscape of provision, responding to
both the needs of individual learners and employers. With this investment and
new ambition, the new College will be well placed to support the skills needs
of the future, to meet the challenges of the global economy.”
Bill
Moorcroft was appointed Principal of South Trafford College in January 2003. He
has celebrated a long reign of success with the College, which is now officially
recognised as an outstanding college for its learners. In 2006, South Trafford
College was presented with Learning and Skills Beacon status and following a visit from
Ofsted, they also had an ‘outstanding’ inspection, having been awarded top
marks in all five areas of inspection. The
College has once again this year seen continuous improvement in its pass rates
and continues to be one of the leaders in the FE sector.
Chair
of Governors, Graham Luccock said today: “I would like to congratulate Bill on
his appointment and I would also like to thank the Governors and Principals of
both North and South Trafford Colleges,
for providing the leadership and direction to achieve what will be a ‘Super College’.
This new College will be in an even stronger position to increase learning
opportunities for the people of Trafford and beyond, and I look forward to an
exciting future for the new Trafford
College.”
