Cogent
has finalised its Sector Skills Agreement (SSA) following months of research
and consultation with 100s of Cogent employers. This agreement represents a
long-term relationship between all our employers as well as stakeholders and
training providers to deliver relevant skills, training and development. The
resulting action plan is based on an assessment of current and future skills
needs, as well as existing training and education provision.
Five
key “Big Ticket” programmes for the sector, which cut across our industry
boundaries, have been drawn up and form the basis of this plan.
This
important programme of work is designed to meet the immediate and medium term
skills needs of employers. Through the SSA employers have told us that they
have real and pressing skills shortages in
- innovation and business improvement
techniques;
- change and project management;
- health and safety;
- management and leadership.
Our
research has also confirmed that with an ageing workforce demand for new
recruits during the next ten years will be high, and employers will need to
look beyond the traditional pool of candidates to find the talented people they
need.
These
Big Ticket Programmes are a collective and standards-based approach to closing
skills gaps and reducing skills shortages. They are designed to support our
industries in developing their workforce, boosting skills and in competing in
the global economy.
