The UK Chemical Industries Association (CIA) were pleased to read the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency’s (SEPA) environmental performance scores for 2004/2005 that were published today. All CIA member sites in Scotland have scored well in the overall Operator Performance Assessments and Pollution Hazard Appraisals (OPA), some achieving excellent scores, reflecting highly effective environmental management.
The industry continues to work closely with SEPA to minimise its environmental impact with long-term emissions trends continuing to decline.
Commenting on the publication, CIA Director Business Environment, Stephen Elliott said, “We are pleased to see that our sector continues to maintain high standards of environmental performance in Scotland - a performance supported by our long standing voluntary initiative, Responsible Care. We recognise that more needs to be done and the CIA’s Sustainable Development Strategy with its stretching 2010 environmental performance goals will help deliver the necessary improvements that our stakeholders rightly expect”.
