Regional Network
Cogent has a strong regional organisation responding to the increasing regionalisation of government funding and service delivery. Where networks of employers exist already, Cogent is keen to join and work with them. For example, the North East Energy Group run by One North East gives Cogent the opportunity to participate in this region and to join the Decommissioning group.
In the South West, Cogent initiated a Nuclear Employers Forum to raise the profile of the industry. In this region, the industry turnover of about £500m through some 20 centres of employment has a major impact on the regional economy which is little recognised. Following the first meeting of this Forum presentations were made to the South West RDA in summer 2004 and January 2005 and some progress was made in the recognition by SW RDA of the importance of the industry in the region. A second meeting of the Forum was held on 26 January 2005 at DML offices in Keynsham, which resulted in several new actions for Cogent and the group. Click here for meeting notes.
In the East of England, the nuclear industry's interests are included in the Skills for Energy study reported elsewhere on this site.
For more information on the regional networks, contact your Cogent regional adviser.
Nuclear Steering Group
The Nuclear Employers' Steering Group (NESG) guided the entry of the industry into Cogent and continues to provide guidance in the ongoing programme of work. Notes of its meetings over the past two years can be seen here.
