Is it costly for small companies to access the system?
One of the objectives of the Vantage system is to ensure it is available to all, regardless of in-house systems and company size. Access to Vantage can be made in a number of ways depending on the individual company's expected usage. Smaller companies can be connected via the Internet ; larger organisations use fixed data connections.
Can the Vantage system be used for unwanted purposes?
A Code of Practice has been developed which ensures that the system cannot be used for purposes other than intended (eg. commercial gain or blacklisting). A particular aspect of this Code is that the Vantage system exists primarily to enhance safe working.
Who is able to access individuals' personal details?
Only the individuals' current employer has access to personal details. Individuals can also access the information themselves using the card-reading facilities installed at the heliports.
When changing job, a prospective employer is able to request sufficient information to verify training and competency.
How does the Vantage system differ from previous systems?
The smart card has an embedded chip which holds the information available through previous systems as well as details of individuals' safety-related training, working time and competency.
What are the benefits of the Vantage system?
The system increases confidence that the people working offshore have the appropriate training to do their job safety and helps safeguard against people being asked to do something for which they haven't been trained.
