| 31 Oct 2008 - HNC/D Petroleum Engineering course Development |
| Adam Smith College in partnership with the Tayside Engineering Colleges are responding to industry demand by updating their courses in Petroleum Engineering. The courses are aimed at those people working in or seeking employment in the ‘upstream’ oil and gas sector. To ensure that the qualification is fit for purpose the design team is seeking feedback from as many people as possible. The link will direct you to the proposed course frameworks and a short questionnaire which will allow you to give us your views on the proposal. Given the range of career opportunities in the sector the proposed HND framework has focused on a relatively small mandatory section, allowing for options to be chosen that suit different job roles.’

| 24 Oct 2008 - Three-Year Skills Plan to Deliver World-Class Workforce in the Cogent Sector |
| A new £50m three-year agreement between Government and the Cogent Science-based industries, to help beat skills shortages and build a world-class workforce was announced by Skills Minister the Rt Hon John Denham MP, Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS), today.
The deal, agreed by DIUS, the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) and Cogent SSC, the Sector Skills Council for the chemicals, nuclear, oil and gas, petroleum and polymer industries, will help to deliver more highly skilled and qualified workers in a sector requiring 24,000 process operatives in the next five years. |

| 16 Oct 2008 - Cogent SSC appoints Skills Director for London, South East and South West |
| Cogent has appointed Anne Harper (MA, AMRS, FRSA) as Skills Director with a wide-ranging workforce development brief covering London as well as South East and South West England.
Cogent is the employer-led SSC for the chemicals, pharmaceuticals, nuclear, oil and gas, petroleum and polymer industries. Its remit is to provide skills solutions to these science-using employers including the development of national occupational standards; the provision of skills intelligence and advising on the skills necessary for businesses to compete and perform safely, effectively and profitably. |

The PAC Programme has been formed by leading engineers who have pooled their core techniques in lean process and manufacturing to create a new and different approach specifically designed to help smaller companies. |
