| 29 Sep 2008 - National Consultation on National Occupational Standards |
| Cogent through the UK Commission for Employment and Skills has been asked by governments to conduct a full strategic review of national occupational standards, on behalf of the Cogent Sector, to ensure they meet the needs of employers and support the aims of qualifications systems. The main outcomes of the review will be a report to governments at the end on January 2009 and an emerging strategy that will be developed from consultation with key stakeholders including you. |

| 15 Sep 2008 - Nuclear Bursary programme offers Awards up to £4,000 |
| The National Skills Academy for Nuclear in partnership with the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) and Serco are rolling out a second round of their Bursary award scheme.
The scheme is aimed at quality individuals on programmes of study relevant to the Nuclear industry, and includes Foundation Degrees, Honours Degrees and Masters Degrees. The programme provides financial support to students. It aims to attract a broader mix of new entrants into the Nuclear industry and into the wider Science and Technology agenda, leading to increased diversity and opportunity in the sector.
Twenty Six students across the UK were successful in their Bursary application in May of this year. |

| The former East Midlands Polymer Executive Forum has voted to become the Regional Skills Board of the Midlands spoke of the National Skills Academy Process Industries, and is calling for more employers to come forward and back its drive to help the region’s process industries employers tackle urgent skills shortages holding back this £23bn industry. |

| 30 Jul 2008 - Hastings College Appointed Southeast/East Regional Hub for NSAN |
| Hastings College has been appointed as the hub of the Southeast/East Region for the National Skills Academy for Nuclear. As the hub for the Southeast & East Region, Hastings College will support the Skills Academy Regional Manager, Robin Tinkler, to complete an evaluation of training needs and training development required for the nuclear sector in the region. Hastings College will work with the Skills Academy’s quality assured network of providers, to ensure that training meets the nationally agreed Skills Academy standards, and is responsive to the needs of all the nuclear employers in the Southeast/East region.

| 30 Jul 2008 - NSAPI North West Regional Launch |
| Employers, training providers and skills brokers from across the North West turned out in force recently to the regional launch of the National Skills Academy Process Industries, to hear how it is working with employers and other stakeholders to address the skills gaps holding back the £23bn industries.
The Skills Academy, one of several established by the Government in a drive to upskill the UK’s economy, was launched nationally earlier this year. It is already working alongside North West employers and training providers on creating an industry-wide training and development framework driven by employers themselves. |
