23 Jul 2009 - Searching for the Nuclear Stars of the Next Generation
The National Skills Academy for Nuclear has launched a search to find the Nuclear sectors Stars of the future. The Skills Academy are looking for nominations in the categories of Nuclear Apprentice of the Year, Most Promising Foundation Degree Student of the Year and HND Student of the year (Scotland). The finalists will be selected to be invited to attend the high profile UK Nuclear Skills Awards Dinner which will be held on the 11th February 2010 in Manchester. The Skills Award Dinner is a collaborative event organised by Cogent Sector Skills Council and the National Skills Academy for Nuclear, which will feature both the Regional and National award presentations

22 Jul 2009 - Training Specialist wins Academy Backing
One of the country’s leading technical consultancies to process industries across the world has had its products and services officially endorsed by the National Skills Academy Process Industries. North West-based ABB Engineering Services is one of five regional education and training providers that now have Academy endorsement, giving them access to hundreds of UK employers looking for specialist training to help them address the urgent skills crisis facing this £67 billion sector. The North West process industries, which cover the chemicals, polymers and pharmaceutical sectors, employ over 61,000 people and turn over the equivalent of £35,000 per minute. ABB which operates in more than 100 countries and has over 500 employees in its Warrington base alone, has gone through a rigorous assessment process to be accredited. This will enhance the Academy’s coverage of the skills agenda and give it complete breadth from Level 2 NVQ to Continuous Professional Development for Chartered Engineers in the relevant sectors. Its staff will be working alongside the Academy and regional employers to create bespoke courses as part of a national training and accreditation framework that will help resolve industry skills issues.
15 Jul 2009 - Nuclear Industry warmly welcomes UK low-carbon industrial strategy
The Nuclear Industry Association (NIA) today warmly welcomed the government’s wide-ranging industrial strategy designed to deliver a low-carbon future for the UK. The government-wide strategy, unveiled by Lord Mandelson and Ed Miliband sets out an integrated plan for Britain’s clean-air future – and underlines support for a new generation of low-carbon nuclear stations. The strategy clearly states “it is in the public interest that nuclear should play a key role in meeting the UK’s future low-carbon energy requirements” - and points towards huge economic opportunities for British firms in both the domestic and international nuclear markets.

One of the East Midlands’ leading providers of Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) management training has had its products and services officially endorsed by the National Skills Academy Process Industries. East Midlands-based Focus Management for Business is one of five regional education and training providers that now have Academy endorsement, giving them access to hundreds of UK employers looking for specialist training to help them address the urgent skills crisis facing this £67 billion sector. The East Midlands process industries, which cover the chemicals, polymers and pharmaceutical sectors, employ over 36,000 people and turn over the equivalent of £9000 per minute. Focus has successfully trained nearly 500 ILM students over the past 10 years, and has gone through a rigorous assessment process to be accredited as an Academy Centre of Leadership and Management.

The National Skills Academy for Nuclear has launched a search to find the Nuclear Sector’s Foundation Degree/HND student and Apprentice of the Year 2009. These Awards seek to acknowledge and celebrate learners’ exceptional contributions to their workplace. We are looking for apprentices and foundation degree students who have completed their apprenticeship framework or degree and have made a real difference to the organisation they work in. We are looking for individuals who have gone beyond everyone’s expectations, or have demonstrated huge improvement throughout their studies.
16 Jun 2009 - Skills Academy celebrates first commerial partnership
The National Skills Academy Process Industries has welcomed the first commercial training partner to have its products and services successfully accredited to skills academy standards, giving the training company access to hundreds of employers seeking skills training. UK-wide training and development provider PICME is now accredited as an academy Centre for Business Improvement, working alongside the skills academy to help employers in the chemicals, pharmaceuticals and polymers sectors address crucial skills gaps across the £67bn industries. PICME was set up in 2000 specifically to service the UK’s process industries, and its approach is based on helping businesses to improve performance through engaging with their people and improving their skills.
10 Jun 2009 - Sir Alan calls on firms to employ apprentices
Employers need to be taking on apprentices for the good of their own business, Sir Alan Sugar said yesterday. The leading businessman, famous for television’s The Apprentice where he picks a young person to employ and train, was in Gateshead to encourage local businesses to invest in apprenticeships.
