30 Jan 2008 - Further growth in Nuclear Training at Bridgwater College
In May 2007, following open tender, Bridgwater College was selected as the South West hub of the National Skills Academy Nuclear. The role of the hub is to deliver training and encourage the development and delivery of quality training by other Academy assured providers in the Southwest Regional Training Cluster.
11 Jan 2008 - Cogent SSC appoints Skills Director for the Nuclear Industry
Clive Smith OBE will join Cogent as Skills Director for the Nuclear Industry on February 11th. Clive has a long and distinguished career in the nuclear industry. He started as an apprentice Control Engineer with the Royal Navy and following a career spanning over 30 years and a variety of roles, was appointed the MoD’s Head of Nuclear Skills Team.
11 Jan 2008 - Cogent SSC welcomes decision on nuclear power
Cogent, the national skills council for the nuclear industry has welcomed the decision which opens the way for investment in new nuclear power stations.
24 Sep 2007 - National Skills Academy for Nuclear Approved by Government
An employer-led proposal has won government approval from the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS) for the creation of a National Skills Academy for Nuclear.
11 Jun 2007 - Occupations and functions to be mapped out
As part of the Sector Qualifications Strategy Cogent has commissioned a mapping exercise of the key occupations and functions across the sector. It will involve close consultation with employers through a series of workshops.

12 Mar 2007 - Nuclear Technology Education Consortium
A new concept in postgraduate-level training for the nuclear sector has been developed by a strong consortium of UK universities and HE institutions. The breadth and format of the training is designed to meet the UK's projected nuclear skills requirements in decommissioning and clean-up, reactor technology, fusion and nuclear medicine. The structure and content of the programme was established following extensive consultations with the UK nuclear sector, including industry, regulators, MoD, NDA, Government Departments and the Cogent Sector Skills Council.
31 Oct 2006 - Skills Academies Bids Successful
The Department for Education and Skills (DfES) has given the green light to a Process Industries National Skills Academy (PINSA) and a Nuclear National Skills Academy (NNSA). The new Academies will go live at the end of 2007.
