Our
apprenticeship framework is setting a clear and understood standard for our
industries with the appropriate balance of generic and industry specific
skills.
We
are working with employers so that we launch a fit-for-purpose apprenticeship
scheme that works for all kinds of companies in our sector. Our
research shows that there are too few technicians coming into the sector and
this project aims to reverse this trend, by tailoring the provision so it works. Employers
have said that they value the scope that apprenticeship programmes can have for
improving the selection and socialisation of young people who are prospective
long-term employees, but their willingness to participate depends primarily on
how they perceive the technical content of the vocational qualifications - and
the relevance of these to their business.
As
well as the all-important bespoke Cogent element to the frameworks, another
important part of this product is the development of the ‘best’ approach to
funding to enable buy-in by a wide cross-section of companies.
We
are aiming to launch the framework in September and much work is underway,
particularly collaboration with training providers across out footprint.
