| 23 Mar 2009 - UK Nuclear Skills Awards Celebrate UK Talent |
| The 12th March 2009 saw the inaugural UK Nuclear Skills Award Ceremony Dinner held by The National Skills Academy for Nuclear and Cogent Sector Skills Council.
This was a high profile event in Manchester attended by nearly 300 nuclear employer, employees and representatives from the training and education sector. The event provided a unique opportunity for key figures in the nuclear industry to join together to celebrate success in workforce development through a number of key awards. These included The Skills Academy’s UK-wide Apprenticeship and Foundation Degree/HND/HNC Student Awards and Cogent’s Outstanding Leadership in Skills Award. |

| Jillian Bundy, the Manager for the Dounreay Training and Development Department, has received the Cogent SSC Award for Outstanding Leadership in Skills.
The Award was one of several handed out an Award Ceremony Dinner held by The National Skills Academy for Nuclear and Cogent Sector Skills Council, on March 12. |

| 06 Feb 2009 - New bill to equip the country in meeting the education and skills needs of the economy |
| New legislation to help deal with the country’s long-term economic and social needs, was published today by Skills Secretary John Denham and Children’s Secretary Ed Balls.
The Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Bill provides the first complete overhaul of Apprenticeships legislation for nearly 200 years. The new legislation will put apprenticeships on a statutory basis, establish the entitlement to an apprenticeship place for every suitably qualified young person who wants one and will ensure a good quality apprenticeship for apprentices and employers alike. |

| 30 Jan 2009 - UK’s Sector Skills Councils appoint first Alliance CEO |
| The Alliance of Sector Skills Councils new Chief Executive John McNamara has taken up his post as its first CEO. The Alliance, formed in 2008, is the collective voice of all 25 of the UK’s Sector Skills Councils (SSCs). Its first CEO will be the champion for these employer-driven organisations that together articulate the voice of the employers of around 90% of the UK's workforce on skills issues.
McNamara brings to the Alliance a proven track record in the skills arena having served as Honorary Chairman of the Federation of Awarding Bodies (FAB), and is a member of the UK Vocational Qualifications Reform Board. |
