29 Apr 2008 - UK industry is ready for new build, shows report
UK industry is ready to provide 80% of a sustained programme of new nuclear power stations, according to a report released today by the Nuclear Industry Association. The report - an update to that released by the NIA in 2006 – shows that less than 5% of UK construction capability would be required to complete a programme of new power stations. “There has been real commitment to developing skills across the engineering sector” commented NIA Chief Executive Keith Parker. “The UK nuclear industry holds a wealth of skilled and experienced workers – who will be key to building a future of secure low-carbon energy”.

26 Feb 2008 - Nuclear Bursary Programme offers awards up to £4000
The National Skills Academy for Nuclear in partnership with the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), Serco and SBB Nuclear are rolling out a Bursary award scheme. The scheme is aimed at quality individuals on programmes of study relevant to the Nuclear industry, and includes Foundation Degrees, Honours Degrees and Masters Degrees. The programme will provide financial contributions to students, and can be extended to individual modules, Continual Professional Development, HNDs etc. It aims to attract a broader mix of new entrants into the Nuclear industry and into the wider Science and Technology agenda, leading to increased diversity and opportunity in the sector
30 Jan 2008 - Further growth in Nuclear Training at Bridgwater College
In May 2007, following open tender, Bridgwater College was selected as the South West hub of the National Skills Academy Nuclear. The role of the hub is to deliver training and encourage the development and delivery of quality training by other Academy assured providers in the Southwest Regional Training Cluster.
11 Jan 2008 - Cogent SSC appoints Skills Director for the Nuclear Industry
Clive Smith OBE will join Cogent as Skills Director for the Nuclear Industry on February 11th. Clive has a long and distinguished career in the nuclear industry. He started as an apprentice Control Engineer with the Royal Navy and following a career spanning over 30 years and a variety of roles, was appointed the MoD’s Head of Nuclear Skills Team.
