Industrial Placements
Cogent is keen to encourage placements with industry to increase practical hands on training and skills development, alongside employability.
In October 2009, Cogent hosted an event for employers and universities to encourage routes to increasing opportunities for collaboration to understand the issues around placement practice and develop solutions. This workshop primarily focused on the pharmaceutical and chemical sectors. However, lesson learnt can be applied across the STEM industries, where Cogent leads on Higher Education activity for the SSC STEM Cluster. Details of the workshop and follow-up reports can be found here. From this workshop and further follow up work, a number of areas for increasing and understanding placements were identified, which include access to information and funding.
