There are a
number of potential models that could address progression from A-level (and/or Advanced Apprenticeships) through into Advanced Technician Training and/or Higher Level Apprenticeships. To meet the specification of a Higher Level Apprenticeship, certain criteria must be met including a framework supported by qualifications and on the job training that are developed to assess competence around certain job roles. However, there is no set pathway in which this must be achieved. This project would examine what would be required to train, perform and enhance Technician training and will be employer led, with appropriate funding mechanisms approached.
A number of models that are flexible will be presented and discussed with employers, providers and stakeholders to determine the right pathways for training in this field, building on Cogent SSC experience from the
Working Higher project. These models will include progression, qualification and competency frameworks, funding mechanisms, and a realistic return on investment for business engagement and for the individual. This programme requires us to add real value and career opportunities for individuals and their employers choosing this new career pathway.
Fit for purpose testing of qualifications and competencies, delivery and assessment, employer and employee uptake will also be determined, and professional body accreditation achieved.
