5th February Cogent Sector Skills Council is inviting companies from the science-using industries to take part in its annual Skills Oracle survey when it launches later this month.
The online survey offers employers a unique opportunity to influence the direction of future skills projects and funding within the chemical, pharmaceutical, nuclear, petroleum, polymers and life sciences sectors.
The Cogent Skills Oracle is the most comprehensive annual skills survey of its kind; it highlights issues around demographics, skills gaps and shortages as well as the workforce development requirement for up-skilling. It also indicates which part of the sector is recruiting apprentices and where there are difficult to fill vacancies.
Julie Plumbley, Cogent Research and Evaluation Manager, said: “The Cogent Skills Oracle is key to ensuring that funding for skills development is directed in the right way.
“It tells us what science-using employers rate as the highest skills priorities for the sector. We do appreciate employers making time to complete the survey, and in return, we will work hard to articulate their skills needs to government and educators.”
George Ritchie, Senior Vice President Regional HR Sembcorp Industries and SVP HR Teesside, commented: “While the Skills Oracle survey does require you to make some time in order to complete it, the questions are very well structured and the results of this important survey will provide the evidence we need in order to influence the skills system, including funding, qualifications and degree courses. I urge employers to make the time to fill it out online.”
Over 150 science-using employers took part in the 2012 Skills Oracle which identified among its findings predicted increases in the recruitment of apprentices and graduates, and continued investment in technical level skills.
Cogent anticipates a greater number of respondents this year as more employers look to add their voice to the industry skills debate. The 2013 Skills Oracle launches on 28th February and will remain open to respondents until 28th March, employers wishing to participate should email [email protected].
