The National Skills Academy for Nuclear has recently been successful in accessing funding to develop a National Network of Simulation Training Centres, this is being done in partnership with GSE Systems and BE part of EDF. The aim is to have three IT based simulation Centres based on the control rooms for the APR and the PWR. They will be available for use by all employer members, partners and providers of the Skills Academy.
Each control room will include: a dual monitor instructor station, 5 dual monitor operator stations, 2 large format (approximately 50”) digital monitors, a high resolution digital projector, and a colour laser printer, a soft panel AGR simulator and a VPanel Console with the PWR Basic Principle simulator and a version of the Basic Principles simulator capable of being run on a laptop.
This is a fantastically exciting development for the industry and these facilities will be embedded into programmes from Apprenticeships to Masters level. It will provide an ideal environment for the development of cognitive learning and skills development and a real appreciation of the fundamentals of nuclear operations and the importance of the right Human Performance standards for working in and with the nuclear industry to ensure the highest standards of excellence and safety throughout.
We therefore need to appoint a dynamic individual to take on the exciting and challenging role of successfully developing this simulation network, working in a close and effective partnership with GSE and BE/EDF. The initial appointment is for 1 year to establish the network and to develop the most appropriate mode of operation going forwards. Subject to the agreed way forwards the post may then be extended.
