Society of Biology Consultation
09 Aug 2011

The Society of Biology is developing a Degree Accreditation Programme, targeting bioscience disciplines where there is a need for graduate research and development expertise.  This is currently in pilot phase, allowing us to test the process and criteria on a small scale, and pending its success we hope to launch the Accreditation Programme to all UK institutions in 2012.  The pilot focuses on two subject areas - biochemistry and in vivo sciences - areas where numerous reports document graduate skills gaps.

In-built flexibility has ensured that the Accreditation Programme remains inclusive and applicable across the range of the biosciences, and we aim to increase the number of disciplines covered over the next few years.  The Society is currently consulting on the strategy for expanding the Accreditation Programme.  We are seeking the views of stakeholders across the breadth of the biosciences on priorities for the first stage of our expansion.

The Consultation seeks to identify evidence to support stakeholder priorities for expansion (attached) and will be followed by a Stakeholder Consultation Event on October 17th.  We would like to invite you to respond to this Consultation to tell us your priorities for the Accreditation Programme along with any research evidence to support this.

Please return any responses to Dr Eva Sharpe by the 8th September.
