Cogent the Skills Council for the Nuclear Industry and partner organisation the National Skills Academy for Nuclear are delighted to announce their third collaborative UK Nuclear Skills Awards Dinner, which will be held at the Palace Hotel, Manchester on the 10th March 2011.
At the Awards Dinner Cogent will present its Award for “Outstanding Leadership
in Skills” and is now calling for entries. This award recognises the efforts of
an individual who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to ensure the nuclear
sector has the skills it needs to continue to be a world-class industry.
The judges are looking for someone who’s led a skills project beyond
their job description; who’s driven forward innovation; who’s contributed to the
wider community and who’s led a nationally driven initiative.
Last year
the award was presented to Ian Williams, Fleet Apprentice Training Manager at EDF
Energy. Under Ian’s stewardship, in just over 2 years, the company's residential
apprenticeship programme has increased from a few apprentices to over 106, and
it’s projected to grow by over 50 % this year. Success is down to Ian’s
enthusiasm and his hard work to link myriad aspects of the programme - from
managing training providers right through to handling the PR.Ian provides 24/7
support for the apprentices, their parents and the EDF Energy Stations. He runs
a wide ranging scheme which includes elements of NVQs, Foundation Degrees, and
even the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
All nominations for next year’s
award will be considered by a Cogent panel and the winner will be
officially announced at the high profile dinner, where they’ll be presented with
their award in front of several hundred nuclear employers and
stakeholders.

announced.)
