Cogent the Skills Council for the Nuclear Industry and partner organisation the National Skills Academy for Nuclear are delighted to announce their fourth collaborative UK Nuclear Skills Awards Dinner, which will be held at the Palace Hotel, Manchester on the 22nd March 2012.
At the Awards Dinner Cogent will present its Award for “Outstanding Leadership
in Skills” and is now calling for entries. This award recognises the efforts of
an individual who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to ensure the nuclear
sector has the skills it needs to continue to be a world-class
industry.
The judges are looking for someone who’s led a skills project
beyond their job description; who’s driven forward innovation; who’s contributed
to the wider community or who’s led a nationally driven initiative.
Last
year the award was awarded to Pat Kieran, a Senior Control & Instrument
Engineer at Dounreay Site Restoration Limited. An example of his commitment is
the organisation of a number of events to train STEM Ambassadors. This has
resulted in around 100 STEM Ambassadors in the Caithness area alone. Most of
these have been recruited as a result of Pat’s work and encouragement. Without
this drive from Pat, there would be significantly fewer STEM Ambassadors in the
area.
All nominations for next year’s award will be considered by a panel
and the winner will be officially announced at the high profile dinner, where
they’ll be presented with their award in front of several hundred nuclear
employers and stakeholders.

Closing
date for entries is 24th October 2011 with the winner being infomed by
30th November 2011. Please note that the winner of this award will need to be
available for a short filmed interview in early December 2011 (dates to be
announced.)
The 2012 award is being sponsored by EDF Energy.
