25 Mar 2011
Cogent today announces the forthcoming appointment of Jenny Clucas as Strategy Director for Chemicals and Petrochemicals. Jenny will lead on skills strategy development for these industries, working closely with Cogent’s employer-led Advisory Councils for Chemicals and Downstream.
Jenny Clucas joins Cogent from Chemicals Northwest, the
industry-led chemical cluster support organisation for the £10.2 billion North West chemical
sector, where she was CEO for the last three years.
Jenny joined the Board of Chemicals Northwest in March 2008
and is also a trustee of Catalyst, an interactive science centre devoted to
chemistry.
Jenny Clucas said, “I am really excited to be taking on this new role and looking forward
to the opportunity to work with Cogent and the industry on the vital area of
skills strategy. This role will allow
me to combine my knowledge and experience of the sector with my long standing
passion for skills development, which has been a major focus of my work with
Chemicals Northwest and previous roles.”
Cogent CEO Joanna Woolf added: “I’m absolutely delighted to
welcome Jenny, who joins us from a much valued partner organisation. She brings
with her a tremendous network and in-depth experience of the process
industries. Jenny will support Cogent’s work with these strategic industries to
help them collectively address the skills challenges they face.
We will benefit hugely from her experience in building
relations with employers, training providers and higher education, as well as
her ability to translate industry requirements into sector-wide solutions.”
Prior to joining Chemicals Northwest Jenny spent 12 years at
Wentworth Consultants, where she acted as both consultant and director, leading
activities in key areas of strategy, change management, leadership, operational
delivery and analysis. She worked with companies from a wide range of sectors,
including many from the process industries, for example FMC, GSK, Flexsys and Cognis.
Jenny gained her Honours Degree and PhD in Chemistry from Liverpool University, before going on to work in
industry. She joined Laporte Chemicals as a development chemist, mainly working
on processes using hydrogen peroxide, before being promoted to various R&D
managerial roles. In 1992 she moved to Solvay Interox as senior Group Manager
in their R&D department.
