Project Manager - Science (Process and Science Industry Skills, Training & Qualification Development)

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially-minded project manager to support the strategic development and establishment of a range of industry-focused training standards and qualifications to ensure that skills, and competence are effective, up-to-date and relevant for industry. Cogent, the Sector Skills Council (SSC) for process industries is a national organisation working at the interface of Employers, Government & Training Providers and assisted by major UK employers; the organisation builds partnerships, services and connections within the public and private sector to support and maximise the development of the UK’s process industries.
Reporting to the Products & Services Director, the appointee will review, develop and maintain a suite of education and skills related products and services to ensure the needs of science based employers are addressed. Working with a range of key stakeholders including partner SSC’s, National Skills Academies, providers and employers, the appointee will actively plan and deliver activities to ensure their take up, be responsible for leading and supporting projects to develop qualifications, standards and other training products and, where appropriate, lead and support developments in biotechnology and bioscience. With a hands-on approach, the role will require broad business understanding to build relationships across SMEs, large multinationals and academia, along with the drive to deliver exceptional service.
Candidates, ideally qualified to degree level in a scientific discipline, will have evidence of effective programme and project management in a, customer-focused training and skills environment, possess exemplary interpersonal skills with a genuine enthusiasm and drive to develop and implement relationships and a real emphasis on teamwork. Knowledge of SSC’s and National Skills Academies and experience of the development and commercialisation of related products, services and courses will be advantageous along with marketing skills, and cultural & financial awareness.
