08 Jul 2008 - 3rd Annual 14-19 Diplomas Conference
September 2008 represents a significant milestone in the Diploma programme; with around half of colleges and a quarter of schools delivering the first five lines of learning. As the pace of engagement accelerates, with 72% schools and 88% of colleges predicted to be offering a diploma by September 2009, addressing the key challenges including; engaging young people and their parents; timetabling; collaboration; monitoring systems; and the ensuring the quality of teaching will be critical.

Oxford and Cherwell Valley College (OCVC) has just announced the introduction of an exciting new industry-specific Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship. This new and unique Apprenticeship will provide employers an opportunity to train and develop their employees in the workplace, from school leavers to graduate level. It will also be equally suitable for bridging the skills gap of those already working in the industry, and therefore offered to entrants of all ages.

18 Jun 2008 - Workers set to benefit from right to request time to train
England's workers are to be given a new right to request time off for training relevant to their job. Ministers expect an extra 300,000 people a year to receive extra training as a result of the new law which could be in place by 2010.

Martin McManus has joined Cogent on a fixed-term basis to undertake some specific pieces of work with the Stakeholder & Policy and Research teams. Martin was most recently Head of Sector Skills Agreements at the SSDA, successfully delivering on the commitment to Ministers that all 25 sectors would have an SSA in place by March 08
