As part of the reforms happening within vocational qualifications the Learning and Skills
Council are looking to SSCs to direct public funding for learners towards those
qualifications most valued by the sector.
To enable this, Cogent is currently reviewing the list of qualifications
that the LSC funds. There is an
opportunity to prioritise, or even remove, the provision of funding according
to the needs of the sector, as set out within the Cogent
SQS.
In line with
employer feedback, Cogent has begun the development of smaller, bite-sized
qualifications which build up to form a new ‘Gold Standard’ of competence. By working closely with the LSC we aim to
ensure funding is available to support these and other new and continuing qualifications
(e.g existing NVQs and VRQs).
