“Helping to keep Yorkshire working when reduced hours become a reality”
In the current economic climate
some manufacturing employers may need to look at introducing ‘reduced hours’ as
a way of maintaining their workforce. Sustain and Train offers manufacturing
employers the opportunity to pay their employees a daily training allowance to
encourage them to attend relevant training on their non-working
days.The
employer offer: A training
allowance of up to £870 per person paid to the employer for staff released for
1-2 days per week, for up to 20 days per person in total, to a maximum of 150
employees.
Who
is eligible? Any size of
manufacturing company within Yorkshire & the Humber on short time or moving onto short time that is
accessing relevant training.
Successes: To date over 300
employees have accessed the fund
Sustain and
Train can make a real difference.
“Orders
reduced by 50% towards the end of 2008; following a programme of voluntary
redundancies, staff numbers changed from 850 - 500 in addition to moving
production to a 4 day week. Part of the overall package that was put together
was the use of Sustain and Train funding to assist with the training of 90
employees to complete an NVQ in Business Improvement Techniques. This training
has resulted in staff retention, improved morale, improving people’s
performance, and improvement in business which has an impact on bottom line
performance.”
