New FD in Polymer Technology starts November 2010

Calling all polymer industry employers… Get in touch now to find out more about workforce development for the real world

Through the Working Higher programme, Cogent has worked with employers and London Metropolitan University (LMU) to develop a brand new flexible Foundation Degree in Polymer technology. The qualification is aimed at providing flexible work-based routes to support workforce development.

Industry specific modules include:
The programme comprises 16 modules including: Product Design, Polymer Science and Technology, Introduction to Materials, Practical skills (1 week workshop at LMU), Polymer Processing, Materials Technology in Context, Quality Management including GMP, Decision Making for Organisations including BIT.

There is also a large work based- project providing the opportunity to put into practice some of the academic learning.

How will the foundation degree be delivered?
•    Distance learning
•    One intensive study block each year/level of study (five days in length)
•    Preparation study for the work-based project
•    Tutorial sessions on an informal basis throughout the course
•    Available on a part-time basis, it is expected that the programme can be completed in three years
•    Work-based learning can be tailored to meet employers’ needs and processes.

Who’s eligible?
Students will be ideally qualified to Level three and above which includes:
•    Advanced apprenticeships
•    Science based A-levels
•    Vocational qualifications in a related profession
•    Relevant experience (even without formal qualifications)

What does it cost?
£ 400 per module or £6,400 for the full course. **15 subsidised places are available for 50% of the full course fee**
