02 May 2008 - Regional Launch of the NSAPI
The National Skills Academy Process Industries is a unique network of employer-led centres of excellence for skills training. It will provide a means for hands-on involvement by employers in the design and delivery of learning, so that training is tailored to the specific needs of the Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals, and Polymer industries.
30 Apr 2008 - Full time apprenticeships for three Grantham College students
Three young engineering students from Grantham College have been offered full time apprenticeships with two leading polymer companies in Rutland. Shaun Clarke, Lucas Pollock and James Young attended an Open Day at the college last year and were successful in being offered sponsorships by Linecross who are based in South Luffenham and RPC Containers Oakham. The promotion was facilitated by Cogent, the national skills council for the polymer industry.
29 Apr 2008 - UK industry is ready for new build, shows report
UK industry is ready to provide 80% of a sustained programme of new nuclear power stations, according to a report released today by the Nuclear Industry Association. The report - an update to that released by the NIA in 2006 – shows that less than 5% of UK construction capability would be required to complete a programme of new power stations. “There has been real commitment to developing skills across the engineering sector” commented NIA Chief Executive Keith Parker. “The UK nuclear industry holds a wealth of skilled and experienced workers – who will be key to building a future of secure low-carbon energy”.
25 Apr 2008 - Cogent welcomes Dr Caroline Sudworth
With the current drive and demand for embedding higher level skills into the workforce, Cogent the Sector Skills Council for the science-using industries, has welcomed the appointment of Dr Caroline Sudworth as the Higher Education Development Manager. Caroline has joined Cogent as the Government’s wide-reaching consultation on high level skills gets underway and she will be seeking views from Cogent employers on how to raise the skills of those already in work and also ensure graduates are equipped with the knowledge for industry.
08 Apr 2008 - Humber Chemical Focus - Competence Assurance Self Assessment Framework Event
The afternoon of the 3rd April 2008 saw over 49 delegates, from over 39 different organisations come together for Cogent’s & NEPIC’s Competence Assurance Self Assessment Framework Event hosted by HCF at CATCH. The afternoon started with a light networking lunch, with plenty of business cards changing hands.
08 Apr 2008 - Interactive Energy PC CD-ROM for schools receives Gold Award
Energy Foresight’s interactive PC CD-ROM; Electrical Energy, Production and Distribution, has achieved the Gold Award for e-Learning at the International Visual Communication Association (IVCA) awards ceremony held at The Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Friday 4th April. The innovative PC CD-ROM will be offered via the National Skills Academy Nuclear as part of its portfolio of products aimed at supporting the uptake of science and technology skills.
07 Apr 2008 - Appointment of NSAPI CEO
Philip Jones has been appointed as permanent CEO of NSAPI, the National Skills Academy Process Industries. The appointment was announced after a comprehensive selection process involving process industry employers and Cogent Sector Skills Council.
01 Apr 2008 - Fresh start for Scottish Skills
Skills development in Scotland takes a major step forward this week – with the launch of Skills Development Scotland and the appointment of Willy Roe as the organisation’s first chair. Skills Development Scotland, which officially launched on April 1, was created by merging Careers Scotland, learndirect Scotland and most of the skills and training functions of the Enterprise Networks
