Chemical IndustryWith sales of £34 billion, the Chemical Industry is one of the largest manufacturing industries in the UK and has one of the highest growth rates.

It is the UK’s manufacturing number one exporter, having generated trade surplus of £4.6 billion on 2000. Approximately 240,000 people are employed in the manufacture of chemical ingredients used in the production of a wide range of products such as pharmaceuticals, paints, plastics and textiles.

All chemicals end up being used in products and services purchased by the consumer, There may be many stages between the processing of a chemical and the final consumer, but it is estimated that each UK household either directly or indirectly spends around £30/week on chemicals. more >>

02 May 2008 - Regional Launch of the NSAPI
The National Skills Academy Process Industries is a unique network of employer-led centres of excellence for skills training. It will provide a means for hands-on involvement by employers in the design and delivery of learning, so that training is tailored to the specific needs of the Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals, and Polymer industries.
14 Mar 2008 - New Chair and Board at Chemicals Northwest
Dr Tony Bastock OBE, Mr Mike Armitage and Mr Jorge Oliveira were elected as Chair, Deputy Chair and Board member at the March Board Meeting. Dr Jenny Clucas who was appointed CEO of Chemicals Northwest in December will also join the new Board. They succeed the current Chair Carol Boyer-Spooner who resigned to concentrate on her role as CEO of Chemical Innovation Knowledge Transfer Network and Board Member Ern Edmonds of Solvay who is now working abroad.
16 Jan 2008 - Chemistry Innovation KTN launches new website
Chemistry Innovation – the Knowledge Transfer Network set up to drive improved innovation performance across the UK chemistry-using industries - has launched a dynamic, new website. The website provides visitors with a highly flexible, user-friendly navigation experience as well as options for interactive knowledge transfer through a secure ‘collaboration’ area and on-line conferencing facility.
